my view points long back :)
Digital minimalism
How many of you have this feeling of missing something or the other every moment? You might be thinking that, that’s how you are. No, it's not the case. In past two years[pandemic days], This phenomenon has increased drastically. some people say it as FOMO i.e. Fear of missing out. You might think of losing focus from any activity that you previously loved to do. And this feeling of not being able to focus on a task that you previously loved doing is also due to the same cause. At times, you might also think that you are not built for the task. And the reason behind it is the declining attention span(i.e. the time you give something for understanding/doing) due to lack of patience. But this reason is not enough to justify the deeper problem. Overstimulation of our mind due to which we aren’t able to pay attention is all due to the amount of content we are being presented in the digital world. According to one survey, it was found that the amount of data produced on the Internet in 2020-2021 is the highest in any other year. People at the beginning found the Internet as a very useful tool, even now it is, but can do greater harm than good to us if its use is not regulated. We are being bombarded with tonnes of information at a time that our brain gets confused about which information to focus upon. This is where the real game begins. Our confusion becomes an opportunity for the social media developers who work upon this confusion to show us what makes us feel good and entertaining at the moment. Our brain upon getting such stimulating content rewards us for such content. And by repeating the activity it creates an addictive cycle. This is how they exploit our confusion creating their market but our problem. We feel distracted every moment and feel like we are missing something but actually we aren’t.
Minimalism is about removing things that’s not essential for us. Digital minimalism is all about being less in the digital world and disconnecting on a regular basis, so as to live your life without thinking unnecessary and doing something that’s fruitful. It is like breaking any other cycle of habit. For Digital Minimalism one can replace the digital world content with some hobbies such as singing, drawing, writing, music, etc. Meditation can also help in making the mind calm, composed and not only increase our attention but also give us a better life to lead. Digital minimalism has a lot to do about increasing one's quality of life. Digital minimalism is saying no to the digital content that disrupts our attention and yes to working on a worthwhile thing that makes us naturally happy.
